NATO SIMULATES RUSSIAN INVASION READINESS

NATO has launched Exercise Griffin Lightning, a major military drill involving 26,000 multinational troops across frontline member states like Poland and the Baltic, simulating a Russian invasion. Estonia led a key sub-operation, Hedgehog, with 18,000 soldiers. The exercise underscores NATO’s increasing concern over Russian aggression, with Germany warning of a potential war in the coming years. Advanced weaponry, tanks, and paratrooper tactics reflect lessons from Ukraine’s ongoing war. US, UK, and German forces emphasised the importance of rapid deployment and interoperability. Lithuania’s defence minister stressed the urgency, citing Russia’s rapid military reforms and wartime economy. NATO drills aim to ensure preparedness in uncertain geopolitical times.

IAEA REVEALS IRAN’S NUCLEAR SECRETS

A confidential report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reveals Iran carried out secret nuclear activities using undeclared materials at three locations—Lavisan-Shian, Varamin, and Turquzabad. The findings confirm a structured program existed until the early 2000s, including tests linked to nuclear weapons development. Western powers plan to push a resolution declaring Iran in non-compliance, which could complicate renewed nuclear talks. Iran denounced the report as politically biased. Meanwhile, Tehran’s uranium stock enriched to 60% has surged to 408.6 kg—enough for several bombs if further enriched. Israel and the IAEA view Iran’s intentions as increasingly dangerous and destabilizing.

TRUMP NOT INFORMED OF STRIKE

Former US National Security Advisor Mike Flynn has claimed that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky did not inform Donald Trump before launching “Operation Spider Web”—a strategic drone attack deep inside Russia that reportedly destroyed over 40 nuclear-capable bombers. Flynn called the lack of communication a “geopolitical insult,” warning of severe global implications. He added that the attack exploited treaty obligations that require Russia to display bombers in open view. Ukraine allegedly used disguised drones in trucks to execute the strike. While Zelensky defended the operation as necessary for Ukraine’s independence, Flynn warned it could provoke dangerous escalation from Russia.

UK LAUNCHES MAJOR DEFENCE OVERHAUL

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has unveiled a major defence overhaul, endorsing all 62 recommendations of a Strategic Defence Review. Plans include building 12 nuclear-powered attack submarines under the AUKUS alliance and six new munitions factories. The review aims to shift the UK into “warfighting readiness” amid rising global threats. A £15 billion investment in nuclear warheads and £1.5 billion for long-range weapons manufacturing are also planned. Additional funds will enhance cyber operations and armed forces housing. The initiative supports the UK’s goal of increasing defence spending to 3% of GDP by the next parliament and strengthening NATO’s collective security framework.

UKRAINE STRIKES RUSSIAN AIRBASES DEEP

Ukraine launched a daring drone attack, dubbed “Spiderweb,” striking four Russian airbases thousands of miles from the front lines, including one near Japan. Using drones hidden in mobile wooden houses, Ukrainian forces destroyed over 40 warplanes, including strategic bombers and a rare A-50 surveillance aircraft. The SBU claims $7 billion in damages and the elimination of 34% of Russia’s cruise missile carriers. The operation, kept secret from the Trump administration, occurred just before new peace talks in Istanbul. Videos confirmed by CNN show fires at Belaya base. Ukrainian President Zelensky called the mission a unique and meticulously planned success.
