TRUMP WARNS AGAINST HIRING INDIANS

US President Donald Trump criticized American tech giants like Google and Apple for hiring Indian professionals and outsourcing to China. Speaking at the AI Summit in Washington, he urged companies to “put America first” and focus on creating domestic jobs. He announced three executive orders to boost US leadership in AI, including building local infrastructure, eliminating ideological bias, and reducing foreign dependence. The move raises uncertainty for Indian IT and AI professionals in the US. Trump declared the AI race a national priority, reminiscent of the space age.

RUBIO SLAMS PALESTINE RECOGNITION MOVE

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio strongly criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to recognise a Palestinian state at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September, calling it a “reckless decision.” Rubio argued the move would serve Hamas propaganda and harm the Middle East peace process. Macron believes the recognition would promote peace, but Washington has distanced itself, with former ambassador Mike Huckabee stating Palestinian statehood is no longer a U.S. foreign policy goal. The sharp opposition from both the U.S. and Israel signals renewed tensions over global diplomatic approaches to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

THAILAND-CAMBODIA TEMPLE CONFLICT RESURFACES

Tensions have reignited between Thailand and Cambodia over the historic 11th-century Preah Vihear temple. Clashes involving airstrikes, landmines, and civilian deaths have escalated the long-standing border dispute rooted in colonial-era maps and nationalist sentiments. Cambodia accuses Thailand of military aggression, while Thailand blames Cambodia for provocations. The UNESCO-listed temple, already a source of past conflict, now sits at the centre of renewed hostilities. Both nations have expelled diplomats, deployed troops, and hardened their stances, making diplomatic resolution increasingly difficult. Talks via the Joint Border Commission offer a slim hope for peace in the region.

INDIA, UK INK LANDMARK TRADE DEAL

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) marks a pivotal shift in bilateral ties, aiming to nearly double trade to $112 billion by 2030. India gains 99% duty-free access for key exports, enhanced mobility for skilled professionals, and market entry for farmers. The UK benefits from tariff cuts on whisky, cars, and medical goods. The deal also covers digital trade, green energy, and education. With shared values and forward-looking cooperation, CETA is more than a trade pact—it’s a generational investment in prosperity, ethics, and innovation between two dynamic democracies.

MANDATORY ARABIC, ISLAMIC LESSONS IN IDF

In a sweeping reform, Israel has mandated all intelligence personnel in the IDF to study Arabic and Islamic culture following critical intelligence lapses during the 2023 Hamas attack. Ordered by AMAN chief Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, the move aims to boost cultural understanding and analytical precision. Half the force will receive Arabic training, with emphasis on Houthi and Iraqi dialects, which have posed decryption challenges. The IDF will also revive TELEM to promote Middle Eastern studies in schools. Experts say it’s a strategic investment in regional literacy amid rising threats in the Arab world.
