Mary Meeker, known as the “Queen of the Internet,” has released a landmark report detailing how AI adoption is outpacing any previous technological revolution in history. Her 340-page document, Trends – Artificial Intelligence, reveals that ChatGPT reached 800 million users by April 2025, and AI models are now advancing at record speeds. Companies like NVIDIA, Google, and Meta are aggressively investing, while model development costs fall and data usage soars. Meeker compares today’s AI surge to the slower spread of Internet 1.0, calling this shift truly “unprecedented” in speed, scale, and impact across global industries.

US-CHINA REACH TRADE FRAMEWORK
After two days of high-level talks in London, the US and China have agreed in principle on a framework to implement last month’s trade agreement. The discussions aimed to ease escalating tensions that had sparked fears of a global recession. Key figures including US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng led the delegations. The talks built on a 90-day tariff pause set in Geneva and addressed critical issues like semiconductor access and rare earth exports. Though details remain scarce, both nations pledged to continue dialogue, reflecting a cautious optimism for economic stability.

GUTERRES PUSHES OCEAN TREATY RATIFICATION
UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged countries to swiftly ratify the High Seas Treaty, warning of irreversible ocean damage and the influence of science denial driven by greed. Speaking at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, he stressed the urgency of reaching the 60-country ratification threshold—just 11 short now—for the treaty to take legal effect. The treaty aims to protect biodiversity in international waters, covering two-thirds of the world’s oceans, and supports goals like ending overfishing and plastic pollution. Guterres emphasized that delaying action endangers marine ecosystems and undermines global climate targets, especially the 30-by-30 conservation commitment.

BUGA SPHERE SHOCKS MEXICAN SCIENTISTS
The mysterious “Buga Sphere,” recovered in Colombia in March 2025, continues to baffle scientists. A team from Mexico’s UNAM discovered fibre-optic-like wires, a chip-like nucleus, and 18 microspheres within the metallic orb. The object reportedly altered its weight from 16 to 22 pounds, suggesting the use of “futuristic gravitational forces.” Even more puzzling is the dried patch of grass where it landed—scientists suspect “invisible energy” rather than radiation caused the dehydration. Some researchers believe the sphere manipulates gravity and generates its own electromagnetic field, fueling theories of it being an advanced probe, though some experts suggest it’s manmade.

IRAN-US NUCLEAR TALKS RESUME SUNDAY
The sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States is expected this Sunday in Muscat, amid a persistent deadlock over uranium enrichment and sanctions relief. Iran plans to present a counterproposal to Washington’s latest draft, criticising it for excluding essential sanctions rollbacks. Meanwhile, tensions escalated as the US and European powers pushed a censure motion at the UN nuclear watchdog. Iran insists its uranium enrichment rights are non-negotiable, while the US views this as a red line. Despite disagreements, both sides deny a deadlock, with Iran emphasizing national interest and “logical, balanced” negotiation goals moving forward.
