LEBANON DEMANDS ISRAELI WITHDRAWAL

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called for Israel’s full withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, citing the necessity of implementing UN Resolution 1701. During a meeting with US Deputy Special Envoy Morgan Ortagus, Aoun emphasized that stability in southern Lebanon is contingent on Israel ceasing hostilities and fulfilling past agreements. He reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to securing these areas post-withdrawal and continuing cooperation with international forces. Additionally, Aoun updated US officials on Lebanon’s efforts to form a new government, stating that consultations are near completion. The meeting included senior Lebanese and US diplomatic and military officials.

TRUMP SANCTIONS ICC

US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order sanctioning International Criminal Court (ICC) officials after the court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza. The sanctions could include asset freezes and travel bans. Trump called the ICC’s actions “illegitimate and baseless,” while 79 countries, including Germany and France, condemned his move as a threat to international justice. Despite this, the ICC vowed to continue its work undeterred.

FSB ARRESTS FOUR SUSPECTED TERRORISTS

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained four female agents accused of planning terrorist attacks on high-ranking officials and energy infrastructure. Trained by Ukraine, they were arrested in Sevastopol, Voronezh, and Rostov-on-Don, with explosives, detonators, and bomb-making manuals in their possession. Three suspects admitted to gathering intelligence and preparing attacks on Russian Defense Ministry officials. The arrests come amid ongoing tensions, with previous Ukrainian sabotage attempts thwarted by the FSB, including a failed plot to target Russia’s only aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov. Authorities continue investigations to uncover additional accomplices.

US SEEKS RENEWED TIES WITH KIM

U.S. President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his intention to reestablish diplomatic relations with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Speaking at a press conference, Trump emphasized that his past engagement with Kim helped prevent conflict and contributed to global stability. His prior meetings with Kim, including summits in Singapore and Hanoi, marked a historic shift in U.S.-North Korea diplomacy. However, negotiations stalled, and North Korea continued missile tests. Trump believes renewed talks could benefit both nations and regional allies like Japan. Analysts remain skeptical, citing Pyongyang’s hardened stance and ongoing nuclear advancements.

MODI, TRUMP DISCUSS TRADE, DEPORTATIONS

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington next week to discuss key issues, including trade, defense, and the deportation of undocumented Indian immigrants. The talks follow the U.S. deportation of 104 Indians, sparking a backlash in India. Trump seeks a more balanced trade relationship, while Modi aims to boost American investments in India. Modi will also meet Elon Musk to discuss Tesla and Starlink’s entry into India. Before visiting the U.S., Modi will attend the AI Action Summit in France with President Macron, focusing on defence and nuclear cooperation.
