TRUMP AND NETANYAHU TO DISCUSS NEXT PHASE OF GAZA PLAN

U.S. President Donald Trump is meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago to discuss the next stage of the Gaza ceasefire plan. This follows an initial U.S.-brokered ceasefire in October 2025 that aimed for gradual de-escalation between Israel and Hamas. Implementation has stalled, with both sides accusing the other of violations. Trump and Netanyahu are expected to address broader Middle East tensions, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and Iran’s role in the region. The meeting aims to refine diplomatic and security steps to stabilise Gaza and prevent renewed conflict.

TRUMP-ZELENSKYY PEACE PUSH NEARS CRUCIAL PHASE

Trump and Zelenskyy’s talks at Mar-a-Lago are being described as “crucial” in the push for a Ukraine peace framework. Both sides reported progress on major aspects of a peace accord, including military terms, though territorial and security guarantee issues remain unresolved. Trump also held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of or after the summit, signaling a tri-lateral diplomatic rhythm. Western leaders welcomed the ongoing dialogue but emphasised the complexity of reconciling Kyiv’s sovereignty with Russia’s strategic interests. The coming weeks may be pivotal for any breakthrough.

IRAN LAUNCHES THREE SATELLITES WITH RUSSIA’S HELP

Iran successfully launched three satellites into orbit using Russian Soyuz rockets, continuing growing space cooperation between the two nations despite Western sanctions. The new satellites are aimed at monitoring agriculture, natural resources and environmental needs. Tehran said the launch demonstrates resilience in its scientific capabilities and strategic autonomy. Russia’s assistance reflects closer ties with Tehran in technology and space sectors. Western governments have criticised such cooperation, warning it could enhance Iran’s dual-use capabilities. The move bolsters Iran’s geopolitical posture as it seeks strategic partnerships amid regional tensions with the U.S., Israel and Europe.

CHINA EXPANDS NUCLEAR WARHEAD PRODUCTION CAPACITY

China has greatly expanded its nuclear weapons production infrastructure, according to expert analysis of satellite imagery. Facilities producing plutonium pits and high explosives have been upgraded, with new security and test structures added. This expansion supports a more agile nuclear posture, potentially adopting launch-on-warning capabilities. China’s current stockpile is estimated to grow to over 1,000 warheads by decade’s end, narrowing the gap with the U.S. Analysts warn this may increase the risk of miscalculation and heighten strategic competition with the United States and its allies, intensifying geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific.

PAKISTAN, 20 NATIONS REJECT ISRAEL’S SOMALILAND RECOGNITION

Pakistan and 20 other countries formally rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland’s independence, calling it a violation of international law. The joint statement was made by members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and others, emphasising support for Somalia’s territorial integrity. Pakistan condemned the move and called for diplomatic pushback against unilateral recognition. The issue underscores shifting diplomacy in the Horn of Africa and broader tensions in Middle Eastern politics, where alliances over state recognition and sovereignty often reflect larger geopolitical divides involving the U.S., Middle Eastern states, and African governments.

SYRIA UNVEILS NEW CURRENCY REFORM TO STABILISE ECONOMY

Syria announced a major currency reform, introducing a new Syrian pound and removing two zeros from the old currency. The reform also permits a 90-day period of dual circulation to ease the transition. The central bank said this monetary strategy is part of a broader effort to restore confidence and economic stability in the war-torn nation. The move comes as Damascus seeks to slow hyperinflation and rebuild after years of conflict. Analysts say the initiative may help stabilise markets and encourage investment, but major structural reforms and peace progress remain critical.
