US PROPOSES KOREAN-STYLE ARMISTICE FOR UKRAINE

The US is reportedly exploring a Korean-style armistice to address the Russia-Ukraine conflict, allowing Russia to retain 20% of Ukrainian territory under a monitored ceasefire. Both President-elect Donald Trump and outgoing President Joe Biden acknowledge the improbability of expelling all Russian forces, including from Crimea. European forces might oversee the ceasefire, while security guarantees are negotiated. Russia insists on Ukraine’s neutrality and retention of its annexed regions. Ukrainian President Zelensky rejects formal territorial concessions but stresses diplomacy as a pathway forward. IRAN HAILS GAZA’S RESISTANCE ‘VICTORY’

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian praised Gaza’s resistance as a historic victory over Israel’s 15-month-long conflict, calling it a testament to the strength and dignity of the Palestinian people. During a meeting, he highlighted the extensive violence against Gaza, with over 47,000 Palestinian casualties, mostly women and children, labelling it terrorism. Hamas reiterated its commitment to rebuilding Gaza and resisting Israeli occupation with solidarity from global supporters.

US ACCEPTS NEW RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR

Russian lawmaker Grigory Karasin revealed on state television that the United States has approved Russia’s new ambassador to Washington. The formal appointment is expected in the coming weeks. While the name remains unconfirmed, reports suggest Alexander Darchiev, head of Russia’s North American department, is the likely candidate. This development comes after Anatoly Antonov’s departure in October. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova clarified that the formal agreement has not yet been finalized. The move signals potential diplomatic recalibrations amid evolving US-Russia relations.

ITALY FM VISITS ISRAEL, PALESTINE

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will visit Israel and Palestinian territories on Monday following the implementation of a long-awaited Gaza ceasefire, confirmed by Israel and Qatar. Tajani will meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa. The visit aims to address humanitarian efforts, and post-war reconstruction in Gaza, and foster regional stability through economic investment. Tajani will co-chair a business meeting with Sa’ar to discuss growth diplomacy and bilateral opportunities. Italy remains committed to alleviating civilian suffering and promoting long-term peace in the region.
