INDIA, CHINA MARK 75 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC TIES

India and China celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, reaffirming commitments to a stable and cooperative relationship. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Droupadi Murmu exchanged congratulatory messages, highlighting their shared goals as major global players. Diplomatic talks in March 2025 focused on border stability, cross-border exchanges, and economic collaboration. The nations plan to resume direct flights, facilitate the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, and expand strategic cooperation. This anniversary marks a step toward rebuilding trust after the 2020 border tensions, with further celebratory events planned in the coming months.

IRAN WARNS OF NUCLEAR SHIFT

Iran has warned that any US military action could push it towards acquiring nuclear weapons. Senior Iranian official Ali Larijani stated that while Tehran is not pursuing nuclear arms, it might reconsider if attacked. The statement follows US President Donald Trump’s threat of unprecedented bombing if Iran refuses a nuclear deal. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed retaliation, escalating tensions. The International Atomic Energy Agency recently reported Iran’s uranium enrichment near weapons-grade levels, raising Western concerns. With negotiations stalled, the risk of conflict looms, further complicating US-Iran relations.

AID WORKERS BODIES FOUND IN GAZA GRAVE

The bodies of 15 emergency and aid workers from the Red Crescent, Palestinian Civil Defence, and the UN were recovered from a grave in southern Gaza, UN officials confirmed. UN aid chief Tom Fletcher stated the workers were killed by Israeli forces while conducting rescues. Israel’s military facilitated the bodies’ evacuation but did not address burial details. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies condemned the attack. This is the deadliest incident for Red Cross workers since 2017, intensifying global concerns over humanitarian safety in Gaza.

CHINA, RUSSIA STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC TIES

China and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing strategic coordination during high-level talks in Moscow between Foreign Ministers Wang Yi and Sergey Lavrov. Both nations agreed to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors and strengthen diplomatic coordination throughout the year. They pledged to work together in global organizations like BRICS, G20, and the UN to protect Global South interests. Discussing Ukraine, Lavrov emphasized Russia’s goal of long-term security, while Wang reiterated China’s support for peaceful resolutions. The meeting also addressed international and Asia-Pacific developments, further cementing their alliance amid shifting global dynamics.

TRUMP REJECTS STARMER’S LAST MINUTE TRADE PLEA

Donald Trump rejected UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s last-minute appeal to exempt Britain from impending US tariffs, set to take effect on April 2. The 25% tariff on foreign car imports signals growing trade tensions, as Trump insists on “no free trade without free speech.” US concerns stem from a UK free speech case involving Livia Tossici-Bolt. Starmer’s attempt to negotiate a limited trade deal was met with resistance, with Trump only agreeing to review the details. With “Liberation Day” looming, Labour’s chances of avoiding economic fallout appear slim.
