RUSSIA BANS 21 BRITISH POLITICIANS

Russia has intensified its standoff with the United Kingdom by banning 21 British politicians, accusing them of spreading “Russophobia” and “fabricating anti-Russian narratives.” The Kremlin’s latest “stop list” targets members of the Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, SNP, and DUP. Russia claims the UK’s foreign policy is aimed at damaging Moscow’s interests and supporting Ukraine’s “neo-Nazi regime.” This move comes after Britain froze over £25 billion in Russian assets post-Ukraine invasion. The banned politicians include Deputy PM Angela Rayner and Cabinet members Rachel Reeves and Ed Miliband. The escalating feud highlights the deepening hostility between London and Moscow since 2022.

TRUMP’S HISTORICAL BLUNDER ON INDIA-PAK

During a media interaction at Pope Francis’ funeral, US President Donald Trump mistakenly stated that India and Pakistan have been fighting over Kashmir for “1,000” to “1,500” years. His comment drew widespread criticism, as Pakistan was only established in 1947. Trump’s factual error has reignited debates about the awareness and sensitivity of global leaders regarding South Asian history. This statement followed a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 people. Trump’s remark, intended to stress his ties with both nations, instead sparked backlash online, with many questioning his historical knowledge and diplomatic appropriateness.

MUSK’S USE OF PERSONAL DATA SPARKS OUTRAGE

Elon Musk’s DOGE team is reportedly creating a “deportation machine” by consolidating sensitive personal data from multiple US government departments like the IRS, Social Security, and Health and Human Services, according to CNN. The project, assisted by Palantir Technologies, aims to speed up targeting and deportation of undocumented immigrants. Critics, including Democratic lawmakers and privacy advocates, warn of a potential civil liberties disaster and misuse of citizens’ data. Despite Trump denying direct involvement, documents reveal Palantir’s contract covers aiding immigration enforcement. The centralization of data without proper oversight has triggered concerns about privacy violations and authoritarian overreach.

RUSSIA CLAIMS VICTORY IN KURSK

Russia claims it has fully reclaimed its Kursk region from Ukrainian forces, according to Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov. President Vladimir Putin praised the troops, calling Ukraine’s incursion a “complete failure.” However, Ukraine disputes the claim, insisting that fighting continues and describing the situation as “difficult but controlled.” Meanwhile, Russia confirmed that North Korean soldiers assisted in the battles, a first-time admission after months of speculation. This development coincides with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting in Vatican City to discuss a potential ceasefire, amid continued deadly strikes across Ukraine.

POPE FRANCIS LAID TO REST

Images of Pope Francis’s tomb at Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome have been released, showing a simple stone marked by a crucifix and a single white rose. Following his public Vatican funeral, the late pope was laid to rest privately at the basilica he cherished. Thousands of mourners have since gathered to pay respects, drawn by his lifelong devotion to humility and the Virgin Mary. The choice of burial site reflects Francis’s deep personal connection to the church. As tributes continue, preparations for the largest conclave in modern history to select his successor are expected to begin in early May.
