SYRIAN REBELS CAPTURE HAMA

Rebel factions in Syria seized the key city of Hama on December 5, 2024, after launching a massive offensive against the Syrian government. The army is reportedly redeploying outside the city to avoid urban combat and protect civilians. Rebels took control of northeastern districts and the central prison, freeing detainees. RUSSIA TO INCREASE MANUFACTURING IN INDIA

CHINA CENSORS A SPEECH ON YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT
China has removed a speech by economist Gao Shanwen after his comments about the country’s growing youth unemployment went viral. Speaking at an investor conference, Gao highlighted how young people are struggling to find stable jobs, leading to economic stagnation. He noted that areas with younger populations were performing worse economically than those with older demographics. His statements, which included a reference to youth “turning off the lights and eating noodles,” were seen as too critical, leading to the removal of his speech from WeChat’s Economist Book Club account.

60-DAY CEASEFIRE DEAL BETWEEN ISRAEL-HAMAS
Israel has presented an updated hostage deal proposal to Hamas, which includes a possible ceasefire lasting up to 60 days. The new proposal builds on discussions from August but is now focused on the initial phase. The plan outlines the release of female hostages, men over 50, and those with severe medical conditions. In return, Israel is willing to free Palestinian prisoners, including those with life sentences for terrorism. The updated deal was approved by Israeli officials and presented to Hamas through Egyptian mediation. Both sides have agreed on the broad terms, with only minor details left to settle.
