Donald Trump has threatened new tariffs and sanctions on Russia if Vladimir Putin does not end the war in Ukraine. While Putin has expressed readiness to negotiate, he insists Ukraine must accept territorial losses and stay out of NATO. Meanwhile, Kyiv demands peacekeeping forces and U.S. involvement to deter Russia. Analysts suggest Moscow might be preparing Russians for a compromise. Though Trump’s rhetoric signals tougher U.S. measures, Ukrainians remain skeptical, citing past failed peace efforts and unresolved tensions.
