Trump Says US Has ‘Lost’ India & Russia to China After SCO Summit

US President Donald Trump declared in a fiery social media post that it “looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China,” before sarcastically wishing the three nations a “prosperous” future.
The comment comes days after Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. The summit showcased growing India-China-Russia engagement amid rising US tariff wars.

India’s Chief Economic Advisor Warns Trump’s Tariffs Unsustainable

Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran has said that US President Donald Trump’s 50% tariffs on Indian goods are unlikely to last long, stressing that the “current approach will not be a long-term positive thing” for bilateral relations.
He also cautioned that the 25% tariff on India’s Russian oil purchases would make doing business “extremely challenging,” with adverse effects expected in the second and third quarters of this financial year. Nageswaran warned that the economic pain could spill into the next year if the situation persists.

Ex-US Officials Urge Repair of India-US Ties Amid Tariff Rift

Amid President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Indian imports, former top US officials have warned against letting relations with New Delhi deteriorate further. In a joint Foreign Affairs article, ex-National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and former Deputy Secretary Kurt M. Campbell described the current situation as a “moment of unprecedented discord.”
They stressed that the India-US partnership has bipartisan backing in Washington and has been crucial in deterring China’s adventurism in the Indo-Pacific. The officials warned that without cooperation, the US risks ceding its innovation edge to China.

Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton has said that while President Donald Trump once shared a “very good personal relationship” with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “that’s gone now.”
Bolton cautioned that close personal ties with Trump will not shield world leaders from his unpredictable policies, warning that such relationships “won’t protect you from the worst.”
His remarks come as India-US ties face their worst phase in two decades, strained by Trump’s tariff policies and sharp criticism of New Delhi from his administration.
